Reggaeton is a very popular style of music. It has a special rhythm called "dembow". It comes from Puerto Rico. In the 1990s, young people in San Juan began to make this music. They mixed reggae from Jamaica, hip hop from the United States, and Latin rhythms. They sang in Spanish. The lyrics talked about life in the poor neighborhoods. At first, reggaeton was very controversial. The police and the government of Puerto Rico did not want this music. In 2002, they made a campaign against reggaeton. But the young people kept listening to it. In the 2000s, reggaeton became famous. Daddy Yankee had the song "Gasolina". Afterward, many artists arrived: Don Omar, Wisin & Yandel, J Balvin and Bad Bunny. Today, reggaeton is the most listened-to music in the world. Bad Bunny has been the most popular artist on Spotify for several years.
